To Respond or Not To Respond

Sometimes I think it is best not to respond to negative comments on my blog.  It does not mean I do not value the input of others.  What it does mean is that if I have someone come visit my little blog world that I am not familiar with I may mark their comment as "spam" and move on.  My little blog has a "following" of a pretty small group and I have gotten to know many of you and I know the difference between simply "discussing" a topic and someone from the outside that is trying to start a "heated discussion".  I choose to avoid those.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."  Phillipians 4:8

I also want to say and have stated this in the past on my blog that this is a place for MY thoughts and opinions.  They are not meant to offend.  I am not perfect and if I offend you I am truly sorry.  I will not compromise my faith and will stand for my God and His Word.  I may not always do the best job, but I am a sinner saved by God's grace.  Sometime I find it best to shut my mouth... or not type a reply... than to risk making a poor representation of God.

"Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things." Phillipians 4:8 NIrV (same verse, different translation)

Wishing you a blessed day!

  1. I am not spam. I have been following your blog for about 2 years. I rarely comment, because my rule on commenting is that I only comment if I have something to add. I have been following your duck posts with interest and sometimes sadness. I've been attracted to your blog because I have an interest in both homesteading and homeschooling, and because I'm sort of wishful about large families, though I don't really intend to have one. What I most enjoy about your blog though, is the glimpse into the life of a very sincere person living according to quite different values than my own. I don't share many of your values, but I respect them, and before yesterday, my sense was that you also respected those with values different from your own. Yesterday's post made me sad and angry. I have a toddler. I care about this country very much, and I care for its future. I voted for Obama. You can dismiss me as spam or random negativity all you want, but you are wrong, and you are limiting yourself by believing that.

And to be clear? I'm not trying to convince you to love (or even accept) Obama. I'm not trying to convince you that abortion is a good thing, since I don't even believe that myself. I'm not trying to convince you to embrace gay marriage, though I don't consider homosexuality a "sin." I'm not interested in having that debate with you, because as I said, I respect your beliefs, even where I disagree wit them. I just REALLY resent the implication that anyone who disagrees with you is selfish and immoral.

  2. Immorality isn't defined by Shannon. But by the word of god. Shannon doesn't write the mail. She only delivers it. God sets the standard . Not Shannon.

What she has written is only what god has set as the standard.

Negative comments never add to anything.

Let us seek to be peacemakers. If you don't agree, kindly spare her the negativity.

    1. Thanks Tara. I don't understand why when a person does not agree with another they feel it is beneficial to have a negative conversation online and on personal blog for all to see. I am letting her comments be "seen".

  3. Again, I'm not going to argue with her about what is or isn't a sin. I'm not trying to dissuade her from her religion. But to say that 61 million Americans are selfish and sinful because they voted for a different candidate is absurd. To imagine you have the first idea of what motivates them, knowing LITERALLY nothing about them beyond who they voted for, is not "humble" it's arrogant. Shannon is a blogger and person I have respected, although, as I admit, I rarely comment here. I do not consider it a "kindness" to spare her the reality of her own words, just because they may be painful.

    1. I have unmarked your comments as "spam". I would think you would want them to be hidden. I will not partake in your argument. You don't have to like my opinions or my view. I am totally okay with that. I probably don't like all of yours, but I will not go on your blog and voice my opinions there either out of respect for it being "your" private space. This blog is not just for the public to read. It is for my children to read and sometimes my thoughts are meant for them to be able to "know me" long after I am gone from this earth. I am not after your approval of me. The only approval I am concerned with is God's.
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me." Matthew 5:11 (NIV)
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you... If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you... because they do not know Him who sent Me." John 15:18-21

    2. "I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one." John 17:14-18
Matthew 10:16-20: “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues....But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.”
Matthew 5:10-12: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven...."
Romans 8:16-18: "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
Romans 8:35-39: "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ...Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

    3. 2 Corinthians 4:7-11: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body."
2 Corinthians 12:9-10: "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
2 Timothy 3:1-5, 10-14: "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…. And from such people turn away!" "…all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned ...
Luke 21:12-16: "…they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. This will result in your being witnesses to them. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death."
