A Love Of Reading

I was talking to Rebecca, 6th grade homeschooler and neighbor friend, today about her homeschool experience. She was telling me some details and mentioned they did a lot of reading (being read to) and it made her love reading. She was talking about how it made it easier for her to learn to read and she became a fast reader. I was commenting on the fact that in public school there was so much focus on rushing the kids to read. Savannah chimed right in and said, "Yeah, in public school I did not like to read and now I love reading."

I need to note that we are hardly even reading, which I intend to change. We have simply removed the stress of having to read and read quickly. Now that she is learning to love reading we will start to add more reading to our day. I am sure that you can guess her comment was sweet music to my ears!!! Success is sweet and this is a BIG ... no, HUGE!!!

  2. You know how I feel about it all....so I won't say it again. :o) Kids just blossom when you remove that pressure to perform. You find out JUST WHAT MAKES THEM TICK. I am SO glad to hear this WONDERFUL change of mindset for Savannah. Keep up the good work....:o)!!!

  3. My 12 year old always hated to read when she was younger. Finally I let up and just let it go...that scared me but guess what she loves to read now. She just finished the Twilight series.

    Keep up the good work!
